San Franciscio... The Good & Bad #1

Good:

Many people other than me carry their dogs in bags!

Bad:

This. Is where Frank has to try to poop. This is it. For blocks. So, I have taken to carrying him a half mile to a park. Bean walks. Now, they will at least pee on this tree and may I JUST say that I picked this one because it is a family friendly blog and most of the trees in my neighborhood do NOT have family friendly trash around them in the morning. Use your imaginations.

Here is a longer street view:

Yep. Pretty.

However! To leave things on a positive note:

3 blocks away... Street Waffles!
Clearly Bean is a fan.

Back to San Francisco

Well. Frank and Bean are back in San Francisco. We've been in a bit of a slump as we are rather homesick and do not want to be here. I know that people love SF, but I find it dirty and rather entitled, and Frank dislikes the lack of grass in our "hip & grungy" (read: loud & dirty) neighborhood... that's right, we are haters... BUT... what better way to buck up and move on than to blog about it! And to try to find something positive! The good and the bad - and we only have 3 more months before we head HOME!!

So, the good in the picture below is that leashes seem rather optional at parks here in SF.
Run little pugs! Run free!

The bad news is that while frolicking off leash, it is entirely possible that your pug (Bean) will discover a left over piece of sushi or a joint left on the grass from the night before. I have fished both out of his mouth this week. Also, homeless people do not like to share their breakfast with a pug..no matter how cute.

The Coffee Bandit

Oh Frank. You remain so handsome and wide eyed while trying to falsely maintain your innocence...

For Rent

Now that spring has sprung who doesn't want to get rid of those pesky dandelions springing up throughout the yard? Allow me introduce to you the amazing Dandelion Beaner!
With one brisk sweep of his teeth this high tech and rather sleek, yet fluffy, piece of machinery will slice through those dandelion heads like the slickest of guillotines!

Allow us please to present you with a demonstration:

Oooooooo! Fancy!

(The amazing Dandelion Beaner is also available, as you can see, for clearing debris from your yard... as long as that debris is a ball.)

A Little Bit of Sunshine!

It just so happens that Frank, Bean, and I do not live in a climate with a plethora of sunshine during the winter or spring (or sometimes several summer) months. Fortunately we have a vibrant and delightful group of friends and family who create so much brightness in our lives that we almost don't even notice the rain!
However, it did so happen that one of our dear friends was feeling down last week and noted that the lack of sun as one of the reasons, so, we decided to create some sunshine of our own...

Viola!

The Bean Beam! Guaranteed to warm even the coldest and rainiest of hearts!

BEAN! So charming you are!

Gone Fishing!

Well, amid protests of "where did you go for so long?!!!", Frank, Bean, and I have come up with a new policy!
From now on when we are going to be off line for more than a week we will announce the intention to disappear with the following signage:

Don't they look eager!!!?

We attempted to take a photo of Bean dangling the fish from his tail, but it must be said that it looked RATHER inappropriate.

So, no one fret, we are not headed offline yet, but henceforth you will now know what to look for!

AND we are BACK!

After an extended period of time in California with hours that sadly did not permit for much frolicking or blogging, we are back!!! And we introduce the blogs reappearance by an activity that I recommend for warming both the heart and the body...

Spooning in the Sun!

Now, please don't fret if you can't immediately master Bean's advanced technique, it is quite impressive to see such a little leg in such and expanded spooning position....

However, with a bit of time we feel that not only can the leg extension be achieved, but that you also may be able to master Bean's highly honed talent for the chin/cheek rest...

Oh my! So much joy and warmth in the heart to be attained by a good spoon in the sun!!

Birthday!!

OH Frank! What is that you say? It was your birthday on August 18th?
OH, what a debonair middle aged pug you are becoming!

Frank's birthday was a delight as it included a visit from Grandma and Grandpa, complete with gifts and treats, of course! This year's gift was Birthday Raccoon, which was very popular with the pup...

Oh Frank! So very soft and supple for tugging on!

However, I believe Frank enjoys Birthday Raccoon for another reason...

Oh. Frank. Your new fried also forgets to put his tongue inside!

The only sad news about Frank's birthday was that Grandma and Grandpa left on it, and not only did they leave, but their flight coincided with low tide!! NO!!!
The beach we go to has exposed sand bars at low tide, and Frank knows that he can RUUUUUUUUNNNNN, and bob and weave to his little heart's content without fear of hitting any obstacles - delight! However, when this tide is just a little bit high the beach is rocky and full of barnacles and not terribly great, and so, sadly, there would be no birthday visit to the doggie beach for Frank.

Frank did not greet this news with joy in his heart...

Seeing the sadness welling up in such a handsome pug's eye can be quite unbearable, as you can imagine. In fact, it is so much so that our new friend who had come by for a visit suggested that we try a beach that he knew of down south where, he informed us, there is always a beach with exposed sand and low water levels reaching far, FAR out where Bean could fetch his ball in the water!

Oh FRANK! Doesn't that sound nice!

As you can see, Frank was rather dubious.

Upon arrival however...

OH the JOY!!!!!
Such frolicking ensued!

BEAN! You are such a water hound! They may have to change your official category in the AKC from the Toy Group to the Sporting Group!!

Now, Frank and Bean, who are the luckiest pugs about?! (Though actually they do look rather pouty in this photo...)

And, the birthday didn't end there!

Another fine feature of "down south" is this delicious buffalo take-out:

Let me just zoom in on that sign that you might not be able to read there on the front door...

Um. Yes. Frank and Bean were beside themselves with this news.

And, post bath bliss...

Oh Frank! Delicious!

I believe Frank had quite the successful birthday indeed. Let's recap, shall we? Grandma and Grandpa, Birthday Raccoon, a long, long frolic on the beach, a mini road trip to buffalo take out, and a delicious raw bison bone! What do you think Frank? Pretty good?

Frank?

Frank?

Oh Frank. I shall take that as a yes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Leaving a Pug Behind...

Frank is displeased.
I have been going in and out of San Francisco for work this month, quite a lot, and though Frank and Bean will be joining me for the Fall down here, in the meantime this is the look I get every time I zip my bag:

Frank! You drama king! You have a whole TEAM of people loving on you INCLUDING grandma and grandpa this week! Not to mention that I hear you have finagled your way into adoptive mommy's (my delightful roommate!) bed at night along with your little sidekick Bean...

Such a very hard life Frank has... though I must admit that one misses a small pug acutely even when gone for one night!

The Wayward Tongue

"What? What's happening? Why is everyone staring at me?"

"Did...um....do I have something on my face?"

Oh Frank. You seem to be forgetting to put your tongue in more and more often these days... If ONLY you didn't look so very charming handsome with it poking out I would perhaps be a wee bit concerned....
